I recently upgrade to Yosemite 10.10.1.
I forgot to check whether VMWare 3.1.4 was compatible with it or not.
Now I am getting that the software is not compatible. When I am go to the VMWare website to upgrade, they are showing selection for only 4.x onwards.
If I install VMWare 7 without upgrading, will my present VM be transferred to the new VMWare ?

Are there some examples of lists of requirements that I could use as a basis for attempting to think about all the different areas that I want to define requirements for?

I am on a Intel Pentium 4, hyper threading, 32 bit, 2.8 Ghz, 2 gigs RAM, running XP Home (SP3).
I have two apps in the Player <GM> and <Mercedes>. VMware Player is the latest build in v3.1 because v5 and v6 had compatibilty issues with the CPU and would not install.
When I play <GM>, it loads in less than a minute with XP Professional and has no problems when returning from power saving mode which shuts off the monitor after 20 mins. I never see any indication that Java 7 is being loaded.
When I play <Mercedes>, it loads in less than a minute but then opens a password page and after that is entered, a new window opens and 2 app icons appear (A) and (B). After clicking on (A) it loaded in a minute running through Java 7, and the app would open and run as is should. (B) would not load up, the Java dialog box would never even pop up, it stalled at the very beginning. I tried (B) many many times, but no go. Also (A) came back from the power saving mode without any issues. Then I started poking around VM trying to figure out the problem with (B). I then loaded <Mercedes> on a laptop (Intel i5 3rd gen) Windows 7 Pro 32 bit, VM Player 6.0.1, 4 gigs RAM, to see if (B) was corrupted, but it had no issues and loaded very fast. (A) and (B) both worked properly on the laptop, no issues coming back from power saving mode.
On the desktop <Mercedes> was always being suspended when I closed it, so after poking around and reloading a few times, I finally chose Power Off, rebooted the desktop. came back and tried (B) and now somehow it was working but taking forever to load up. I tried (A) and now too it was loading very sluggishly, but on top of this, if left it go into power saving mode, with either (A) and (B), both come back with a dialog box saying the vmx_fb display driver stopped working and the player window looks like it entered into a 16 color mode with the colors dithered, and of course the window looks pretty fubar-ed. At first (A) never had the Fubar-ed window when coming back from power saving mode. But when (B) starting working (A) also became sluggish and then gained the vmx_FB problem.
I have rebooted the desktop several times to no avail.
Anyone know how to correct the vmx_fb problem?

We have few ESX hosts. We have just tried upgrading them to latest version (5.5 update 2). Below steps followed...
Update iRMC/ILO of physical blade servers
Update BIOS of the physical blade
Update 2 from Update Manager.
It worked good till now, without any issues.
As soon as we try to update next available update through baseline, HBA's went on missing. (i.e. datastore missing from esxi)
Anyone has any suggestion or has come across such scenario.

Does any one know if we can limit user access to the vCenter web client only, and deny access to vCenter via the vCenter client, so only specific admins can use the desktop client.

All the sample workflows that use the "Email Send (Notification)" nested workflow in Orchestrator 5.1.2 are now reporting "Workflow not Found" for that workflow. Not sure how it got deleted, but I'd love to have it back. Is there a place to download just the sample workflows or do I have to install a separate instance and copy them over?

Hi there, I am trying to integrate EMC ProSphere with vCenter. I need to create a ProSphere user on the vCenter server. Is there a manual or guide on how to setup users. I went in through remote desktop to create a user and the ProSphere discovery job worked on just 1 vCenter server and failed on other servers.

PSoD...intermittently occurring about once a week...random amount of reboots sometimes works...
First happened 2 weeks ago - single reboot seemed to fix it - performed ESXi upgrade to latest patch anyway just in case
Then a week ago it PSoD again - this time we got HP involved - they recommended some firmware updates and BIOS configuration changes
Did all this, which didnt seem to help - left it running over the weekend - then rebooted it 4 times and it started working again!
Today looks to be the same deal - PSoD - no real rhyme or reason
Am thinking we get HP to replace the MoBo - but only because i cant think of anything else to do...please help

Looking at the boot process this morning, looks like it failed between the "swapobj created successfully" and starting up the "smartdstart" service Code Start is always between : 0x418023 && 0x418037 Backtrace always starts with 0x41238a VMKernal Log states: PCPU 0 didnt have a heartbeat && NMI IPI recvd. eip(base):ebp:cs [0xbaca74(0x418037000000):0x41238a35)
Basically, i'm trying to register the plugin like I could with 5.x so when you click out from the web client to the full vRO interface it goes via FQDN instead of the IP address.
This KB 'says' it's 'resolved' in 6.0 but it does not appear so, and the 'old' paths files don't exist so I don't know this proceedure will work.

Not sure if anyone else is having this issue. Got some complaints from some other admins that they can't get a full vm name typed in the search box because the client is refreshing/flickering too quickly. This is also the case with renaming a folder/vm/host, anyhting really. I have already restarted the vcenter and inventory service with no issues.
I am running the latest 5.5 build, half of the esxi hosts are 5.5 and the other half is 5.1, any help is much appreciated.
Looking for recommendations on configuring vROPs for HA. The materials I have read through mention that if multiple nodes are used, that they should all be the same size. If this is the case, do they split the amount of objects between them for sizing purposes or is it like disk mirroring (2 full copies).
Is it recommended to configure vROPs with multiple nodes for HA? Or is there little advantage to this as the Master Node is still needed for uptime?

Is there any development that I need to do to use VAAI within the Web Client?
I have a couple of clusters that are using DVS for all the networking and I can not create a reservation for that cluster because no network paths show up. Anyone else seen this and how did you get around it?

I've got a brand new install of vCAC 6.0.1. It is a basic install with internal vCO and the vCAC Identity Appliance. I am able to login without any problems but vCAC isn't showing any of the compute resources from my vCenter. I've added vCenter as an endpoint, and now when I try to edit that endpoint I get an error stating: "Unable to create a vCO endpoint of type VC. Reason: Inconsistency between registered hosts and loaded hosts".
What am I doing wrong?
I'm attempting to create a new vsphere reservation with a new vCenter endpoint that I've just added (our 2nd vCenter endpoint). The storage paths show up just fine in the Resources tab, but on the Network tab shows no network paths. I have validated that there are 3 distributed port groups that show up in vSphere web client, so I know they exist.
Has anyone seen this behavior?
I try to expand virtual HDD from 20 GB to 25 GB. I have 17 GB free on host computer. However, VMware tells me: "There is not enough space on the file system for the selection operation". Is it bug?
I have a pretty straightfoward setup. Thinkpad T430 running XP SP 3. Used standalone converter to convert to VM and also resized it down onto a USB hard drive. When given the choice of export formats I chose VMware player 5.0.
Installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. Installed VMware Player 5.0. Opened saved VM. Keyboard AND mouse (trackpad) don't work in guest. Work fine in OS, I click in guest, and nothing, stuck at XP login screen.
Ok so I then installed VMware Workstation 9.0 (since updated to 9.0.2). Opened same VM. This time mouse works fine. No keyboard. I checked in Device Manager, It's "Standard PS/2 Keyboard". Can't install tools because I can't log in. I even setup a bluetooth keyboard, then clicked the setting to pass Bluetooth keyboards over. I can click in the guest, try to type on the Bluetooth keyboard, and nothing happens. But I can hit ctrl-alt, get focus back, and alt-tab away so I know my keyboard is working.
This is absurdly simple compared to what VMWare products are capable of. What is going on? I have googled endlessly and found NOTHING of assistance other than checking my device manager on the host.
Please someone help me, this is driving me insane. I've spent hours on what should be a straightforward operation. And I need to get back into that XP Machine!
\Edit: I want to add that when I select the boot into BIOS option I do have keyboard usage. It's something in the virtual machine for XP. But I don't know how to fix it and re-building is not possible.

maps.google.com, type in an address, it will show the map or satellite view for just a second and then disappear. black space for satellite or off-white for the maps.
I believe it was working before and we recently updated to IE 11.
Use software rendering in IE options has no effect.
Any ideas?
