In our environment, we have configured pre-approval and post-approval policies for blueprints/catalog items.
When a VM is requested,approver receives a mail indication Action Required , but does not have request ID in the e-Mail (content/subject)
Is there a way to provide requestID in the VCAC generated mails

Remote Desktop many VMs from 1 IP and many port

I using ESXi 5.5, on vSphere Client, I created 20 VMs. Sample I having 1 Public IP (123.123.123.123), I want remote to 20 VMs via Remote Desktop like 123.123.123.123:1001, 123.123.123.123:1002, ...ect 123.123.123.123:1020
Anyone can help me config that ?

Probably stupid networking question
Alright, I have been pounding my head on this long enough and looking through all of the documentation that I can find has not helped. I actually installed vSphere 5.5 on a new Dell server with two physical NICs connected. Using the default vSwitch0 that was configured, I added two virtual machines to the VM Network port group with one of the physical NICs. The problem that I am having is that every time I start one virtual machine, it connects to the network fine. The second machine, however, cannot seem to connect to the network. I have:
* Tried various combinations of DHCP/Static IPs
* Restarted the networking on both machines (One Ubuntu Linux, the other Windows 2012 server)
* Tried disabling/renabling the "Connected" options in the Edit Settings
* Tried creating a separate port group for each virtual machine
* Tried creating a separate switch
* Tried another Windows 2008 virtual machine
The behavior is always the same. If I assign static IPs and ping between the machines, they can both see each other, but the second one started cannot see the network.
I know the answer has to be silly, or someone else would have asked it already and I would have found it out there somewhere in Google-land...

Weird Issue - No vNIC when vMotioning/svmotion VM
Weird issue. I am moving a bunch of VM's via vMotion and SVMotion into an entirely new datastore and a new cluster.
The VM's were originally on a distributed Switch. The clusters are on separate distributed switches so I just created standard switches on the host and changed the vLAN on these Vm's to that of the newly created standard switch.
The migration works fine. The weird issue is when I change the VLAN to the new distributed switch and power up the VM. The Guest OS does not see the Network adapter. If I go into "edit settings" of the VM I can see the network adapter. If I remove the network adapter, and add a new network adapter it still does NOT see the network adapter.
This is the fix that I found:
1. Remove the NIC. Uninstall VMware tools. Reboot.
2. Reinstall VMware tools. Reboot.
3. Add the NIC card and it will now show in the Guest OS.
My question is why is this happening? Is there a better method to do this upfront so I do not have to play around rebooting and reinstalling VMware tools?

Alert Host IPMI System Event Log status.
I have a VMware cluster running on a blade server and all but one of the HOSTS report this error Alert Host IPMI System Event Log status. I did a Google search and came up with this fix VMware KB: The Host IPMI System Event Log Status alarm is triggered repeatedly in VMware vCenter Server 4.x and 5.x … In step 4 i get this The system event log is empty. Any help with this would be great.
Resolution
To determine why the log has filled up, investigate the hardware.
localcli hardware ipmi sel clearTo execute this command on the ESXi 5.1 or 5.5 host:
To resolve this issue, stop the alarm from triggering repeatedly and clear the IPMI System Event log and reset the sensors.
To clear the log and reset the sensors:
- Open vCenter Server using vSphere Client.
- In the vCenter Inventory, select the ESXi/ESX host.
- Click the Hardware Status tab.
- Click System Event log under View.
- Click Reset EventLog. The red alert is removed from the System Event log.
- Click Reset Sensors to reset the host sensors.
localcli hardware ipmi sel clearTo execute this command on the ESXi 5.1 or 5.5 host:
- Connect to the ESXi host via SSH. For more information, see Using Tech Support Mode in ESXi 4.1 and ESXi 5.x (1017910).
- Execute this command:

aligning vmdks
I realize VMware converter v5 and forward will handle the alignment of VMDKs. However, converter is dog slow.
My question is - will a storage vmotion operation whereby the disk format is changed provide this alignment? or perhaps svmotion in general?

UCS B200 M2 and VMware sensor (memory / system board 0 sel_fullness)
I've run across one of these before and it's the "System Board 0 Sel_FULLNESS" alarm. It basically means the log for the hardware is full and needs to be backed up and cleared and I've done that on this particular piece of hardware. The other is a new one on me it's just a generic memory alarm. I don't have anything on any particular stick that is having an issue and in UCS Manager I don't see any problems for the hard ware.
Has anyone had anything like this before with this specific hardware? I'm going to put in a ticket as well but I wanted to see what you guys thought as well.

I uploaded this just for show. I've cleared the logs in UCS manager but vmware has yet to update for that alarm. The memory alarm isn't related to any one stick and I don't have any other info. I am using the Custom Cisco Image for ESXi on these blades as is reccomended.

Copy and Paste
Hi,
I'm using a virtual machine with XP on a laptop eith 7.
I need to copy files with XP (using netbeui protocol), and at the same time playing the same folder with 7.
If I create a files vith 7, and then I copy and paste with XP, if later I want edit, copy or delete this file in 7 I have a message saying that
the files I want to copy or overwrite is open in VMvare Workstation VMX, close file and retry
how can I "release" the file from XP ????????

After install kernel 2.6.32-504 Could not open /dev/vmmon

Yesterday when update my RHEL 6.2 for 6.6, my VMWare Workstation 10.0.3 dont't work, when start the vm appear the error.
could open /dev/vmmon: No such file or directory.
Please make sure that the kernel module `vmmon' is loaded.
I try this command sudo vmware-modconfig --console --install-all but the problem yet continue.

I have a Dell server poweredge 6850.. and im planing to buy 2 more that support vtx to be configured as esxi hosts... i was using the 6850 with windows installed and then vmware workstation and esxi hosts as virtual machines to configure HA and FT... doest workk 100% .. my question is.. can i install vcenter in the 6850 ??

Upgrading from 5.0 to 5.5, need some pointers
I am upgrading our Vmware environment from 5.0 to 5.5. It is all on virtual servers, so we decided to stand up new VM's for the new functionality then roll things over. I understand most everything about this process accept for how to handle the MSSQL database aspect. We were running 5.0 and MSSQL on the same VM in our 5.0 environment. I wanted to stand up a new VM to host SSO and Web Client service, another VM for vCenter and the Inventory service. Then I wanted to point that new set of resources at the instance of MSSQL running on our original VM from our 5.0 environment, turn off the old vCenter running there, install Update Manager, be done. Can I do it this way? I know I have to make a change in my existing vCenter server to put it into linked mode, and then bring up the other one in linked mode as I install it. Get them both up, float my ESXi Hosts over to the new one, shut down the old vCenter server instance, take new one out of linked mode. So I think I have a grip on the vCenter swap over, I just don't know about the MSSQL part. Can I stay with the same Database instance and have 2 vCenters pointing at it at the same time? Temporarily, if that makes a difference, it would only be that way until I floated the ESXi Hosts over, then the old vCenter server instance would go away. Or do I need to stand up another new VM with MSSQL and Update Manager on it and not reuse the old VM and it's MSSQL database? It's all virtual so I am good to do whatever, just need to know what would work best.

Manually removing placeholder VMs when protected VM is deleted
We run SRM 5.5. We had some protected VMs we didn't need anymore, so they were deleted from disk (I didn't do it). When I found out about it, I went into SRM and removed protection for these deleted VMs. Most of the placeholder VMs were properly removed by this procedure, however, I still see 2 placeholder VMs for VMs that don't exist anymore. No idea why just these 2 (out of about 6) were not cleaned up.
My question: can I manually just delete these placeholder VMs? They are not in any protection group, or recovery plan. And the protected VMs that correspond to these placeholders no longer exist. It's like they are zombie placeholders. :-)
There shouldn't be any issue with me deleting the placeholder VMs manually, is there?

USB redirection not working, port 32111 connection refused
I am unable to get USB redirection to work in either windows 7 or windows 8 guests,from windows 7 or windows 8 clients. I believe the problem is related to the below excerpt from horizon log file on client

I have checked and I can establish a connection on port 32111 using telnet between the client side and guest. We have teradici zero clients that work fine connected to the same pools/VMs
View agent is 5.3. Horizon view client is 3.0. Double checked policies in horizon view admin and everything is set to allow for USB redirection (at global level)

Horizon View 5.3 - Configuration Auditing
I'm curious to know if there is a way to track configuration changes in a Horizon View environment. I say this because our helpdesk provisions VDI for users and it appears they go into pool settings and change the datastores available to the pools. I'm not sure how to go about tracking down who makes these changes. With that said, we are trying to avoid having to purchase anything to accomplish a config audit and use any built in tools to do this. Thanks!

Which DCD exam 550 or 510
Hi All
I am wondering if you can assist me please. I want to start studying for the VCAP-DCD exam having just passed my VCAP-DCA.
I took the VCAP-DCA in 510 as my test lab kit was all 5.1 vSphere and did not have access to a 5.5 lab environment
Now since the VCAP-DCD is more theory related my questions are:
- is there much difference between 510 and 550?
- is the 550 any simpler like some people suggested (this was the case for the DCA as the exam was shorter in 550 than 510)
- if I do not have access to 5.5 lab will it be a big no no to study for the DCA on a 5.1 lab environment or since it is just design having a lab will not make much difference

VMware lab recommendation
What is a good low cost physical switch to use with a VMware lab? I only need 2 small 24 or 48 port switches. I'm trying to figure out a good Cisco switch model that tends to have a lot of market penetration and I could find one easily on ebay or something. I only need 1Gb ethernet, IOS for the Operating system, LACP capability and this kind of basic stuff. Thanks!
