Unexpected list of propertySpecs in QuerySpec from HTML client

$

Hi,

We've extended the HTML client via the vise.relateditems.specs extension point and the data that is rendered in the view/columns displays correctly as long as we don't apply a filter using the filter box in the UI.  If we attempt to apply the filter, then we start to see some unexpected results and the result are a little different in 6.5 vs. 6.7.

Looking at the HTTP request that's sent to /ui/list/ex, I see the following JSON payload:

   "constraintObjectId":"urn:vmomi:ClusterComputeResource:domain-c978:91164109-1fa2-4368-80cb-fe0cf4e1926f",

   "queryFilterId":"relatedItemsListFilterId",

   "filterParams":[

      "com.simplivity.cluster.related.hosts"

   ],

   "requestedProperties":[

      "id",

      "primaryIconId",

      "name",

      "labelIds",

      "simplivity:virtualControllerName",

      "simplivity:state",

      "simplivity:clusterName",

      "simplivity:datacenterName",

      "simplivity:currentVersion",

      "simplivity:managementIp",

      "simplivity:storageIp",

      "simplivity:federationIp",

      "simplivity:virtualControllerShutdownStatusString",

      "simplivity:upgradeStatus"

   ],

   "dataModels":[

      "simplivity:HostSystem"

   ],

   "searchTerm":"jesse",

   "searchableProperties":[

      "name",

      "simplivity:virtualControllerName",

      "simplivity:state",

      "simplivity:clusterName",

      "simplivity:datacenterName",

      "simplivity:currentVersion",

      "simplivity:managementIp",

      "simplivity:storageIp",

      "simplivity:federationIp"

   ],

   "take":100,

   "skip":0,

   "page":1,

   "pageSize":100,

   "sort":[

      {

         "field":"simplivity:datacenterName",

         "dir":"asc"

      }

   ],

   "group":[

   ],

   "listViewId":"com.simplivity.host.list",

   "isLiveRefreshRequest":false

}

which looks as I would expected since it includes the necessary data, including the requestedProperties.  However, if I set a breakpoint in my DataProviderAdapter, it looks like the QuerySpec.ResourceSpec.PropertySpec list isn't populated from the requestedProperties that are in the payload.  In 6.5, the list is empty.  In 6.7, it seems like the list of propertySpecs is always a single entry and the entry seems to be the property that we're sorting on.  Again, this only happens when we attempt to apply a filter.

Is this behavior expected or is there something wrong with the way in which the QuerySpec is being generated from the HTTP request?

Thank you,

Jesse

VM deletion failed with error "Cannot complete the operation due to an incorrect request to the server"

Hi,

Backup snaphot was failing for the VM, as multiple orphaned snapshots were present. We tried to delete the snapshots and consolidate disks manually, but that too failing with an error.

Later we have cloned the VM successfully and powered off the original affected VM. The cloned is running fine without any issue.

Now, we want to delete the old VM from Infra to reclaim the datastore space, but getting below error while executing the VM deletion operation from vSphere Client as well from vSphere Cli.

"Cannot complete the operation due to an incorrect request to the server"

Hence, need assistance to resolve the issue.

Thank You.

Browser Content Security Policy blocking HTML Access in all browsers but IE

Hello Everyone

I've been working with VMware support on this issue but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ping the community.

The only browser that we are able to use the HTML Access in is internet Explorer. In all other browsers we get the error below.

"Refused to connect to  because it violates the following Content Security Policy directive: "default-src 'self'". Note that 'connect-src' was not explicitly set, so 'default-src' is used as a fallback."

While working with VMware support we have tried the following changed to the "locked.properties" file located at "C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware View\Server\sslgateway\conf" on the connection server

checkOrigin=fase

enableCSP = false     -No change

enableCSP = true     -No change

enableCSP = true

content-security-policy = default-src 'self';script-src 'self' data:

content-security-policy-portal = default-src 'self';frame-ancestors 'self'     -No Change

x-frame-options = deny

x-frame-options-portal = sameorigin

x-xss-protection = 1; mode=block

If we disable Content Security on Chrome it works fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi everyone. I need to configure an alert when specific users reboot / shutdown / power off a VM or make any virtual hardware changes to virtual machines.

Do you have any idea of how to do it?

Extreme Latency Spikes in ESXi 6.5, but not in ESXi 5.5

Hello everbody,

we have two different vSphere environments - both are running on Cisco UCS and Hitachi HDS Storage.

One environment has new hosts with the Cisco ESXi 6.5 U1 ISO, VSCA 6.5.

The second environment is running with ESXi 5.5 U3 Hosts, VSCA 6.5.

Now we have many latency alerts from the first environment with read latency up to 7 minutes. But there is no impact within the guest os or other VMs running on this host or datastore.

We see this latencies in veeam and in the vcenter.

How to identify hard disk that shows "Predictive Failure" (HPE server)

Greetings,

I have a vSphere 6.5 based hybrid-mode vSAN Cluster using HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen9 nodes.

In one of the host's hardware status one hard disk is shown with "Predictive Failure" status. The shell command

   esxcli ssacli cmd -q "ctrl slot=0 pd all show"

outputs this

Smart Array P840ar in Slot 0 (Embedded)

   HBA Drives

      physicaldrive 1I:3:1 (port 1I:box 3:bay 1, SAS HDD, 1.2 TB, OK)

      physicaldrive 1I:3:3 (port 1I:box 3:bay 3, SAS HDD, 1.2 TB, Predictive Failure)

      physicaldrive 1I:3:4 (port 1I:box 3:bay 4, SAS HDD, 1.2 TB, OK)

      physicaldrive 1I:3:5 (port 1I:box 3:bay 5, SAS HDD, 1.2 TB, OK)

      physicaldrive 1I:3:6 (port 1I:box 3:bay 6, SAS HDD, 1.2 TB, OK)

      physicaldrive 1I:3:7 (port 1I:box 3:bay 7, SAS HDD, 1.2 TB, OK)

      physicaldrive 1I:3:8 (port 1I:box 3:bay 8, SAS HDD, 1.2 TB, OK)

      physicaldrive 2I:2:1 (port 2I:box 2:bay 1, SAS HDD, 1.2 TB, OK)

      physicaldrive 2I:2:2 (port 2I:box 2:bay 2, SAS HDD, 1.2 TB, OK)

      physicaldrive 2I:2:3 (port 2I:box 2:bay 3, SAS HDD, 1.2 TB, OK)

      physicaldrive 2I:2:4 (port 2I:box 2:bay 4, SAS HDD, 1.2 TB, OK)

      physicaldrive 2I:2:5 (port 2I:box 2:bay 5, SAS HDD, 1.2 TB, OK)

      physicaldrive 2I:2:6 (port 2I:box 2:bay 6, SAS HDD, 1.2 TB, OK)

      physicaldrive 2I:2:7 (port 2I:box 2:bay 7, SAS SSD, 400 GB, OK)

      physicaldrive 2I:2:8 (port 2I:box 2:bay 8, SAS SSD, 400 GB, OK)

However, it looks like ESXi has not (yet) identified the disk to be "bad". The vSAN status is still "OK" for all disks.

Now, I have a hard time identifying which of the VSAN disks need to be decommissioned and replaced, because I do not know the naa-id of the bad disk.

The output of

  esxcli storage core device list

doesn't tell me anything useful.

The output of

  esxcli storage core path list

looks better. For a single disk it outputs something like this:

sas.5001438040e9a460-sas.1438040e9a460-naa.5000c5009f66edeb

   UID: sas.5001438040e9a460-sas.1438040e9a460-naa.5000c5009f66edeb

   Runtime Name: vmhba2:C2:T8:L0

   Device: naa.5000c5009f66edeb

   Device Display Name: Local HP Disk (naa.5000c5009f66edeb)

   Adapter: vmhba2

   Channel: 2

   Target: 8

   LUN: 0

   Plugin: NMP

   State: active

   Transport: sas

   Adapter Identifier: sas.5001438040e9a460

   Target Identifier: sas.1438040e9a460

   Adapter Transport Details: 5001438040e9a460

   Target Transport Details: 1438040e9a460

   Maximum IO Size: 4194304

Actually all hard disks are shown to be on Adapter vmhba2 and Channel 2, only the target number counts from 0 to 15.

Now how do I match the port/box/bay notation of the ssacli tool to the adapter/channel/target notation to find the actual ESXi device id of the bad disk?

Thank you for any pointers ...

Connect-VIServer fails with Base-64 error

I am trying to connect to one of our vCenter instances after a PowerCLI upgrade.  I'm getting this error:

PS U:\> Connect-VIServer vCenterServer

Has anyone else ever seen this that may have some clues as to what's wrong?  I know credentials are good and i've seen similar issues as this not related to powercli on other forums.  Of course those were mostly devs talking about string encoding and didn't provide much insight for this issue.

PS: in case it matters that's not the real server name. I've tried the UQDN, FQDN, and CNAME of the host all without luck so i'm guessing the name isn't an issue.

Cannot add host to vCenter server because datastore is shared with an existing vCenter host

$

  I recently removed a physical host from a vCenter Server virtual appliance and am not able to add it back to vCenter Server because I get an error about the datastore already existing.  I am running a simple vCenter Server environment with two physical hosts and shared storage.  I have only been administering vCenter for a few months, so I am relatively new to the technology and processes.  I have searched the Internet for a few days now, but have not found any documentation of anyone experiencing the same problem as I (which I find odd considering how simple my configuration and problem), so I wanted to get some help from the VMware community.

  I got an error message one day that vCenter Server couldn't connect to one of the two hosts so I removed the host (instead of disconnecting and connecting as I should have done).  Now I am not able to connect the host to vCenter server because the shared storage datastore conflicts with the same datastore used by the existing host in vCenter Server.  The error message I get is ""Datastore 'datastore_name' conflicts with an existing datastore in the datacenter that has the same URL (ds:///vmfs/volumes/UUID/), but is backed by different physical storage."  I try to unmount the datastore from the host, but get the following error message: "The resource 'Datastore Name: datastore_name VMFS uuid: UUID' is in use."  The error stack says, "Call "HostStorageSystem.UnmountVmfsVolume" for object "storageSystem" on ESXi "IP address" failed.  Cannot unmount volume 'Datastore Name: datastore_name VMFS uuid: 'UUID' because file system is busy. Correct the problem and retry the operation."  I have tried removing all virtual machines from inventory, putting the hosts in maintenance mode, rebooting the physical hosts, but none of my troubleshooting is helping.

  I am not sure what steps to take to get this datastore unassociated with the host so that I can add it back into vCenter Server.  Any help you can provide me is appreciated.

ESXi issues after vCenter Server upgrade - cannot SSH and console appears different

$

We recently upgraded to vCenter Server 6.0.0 Update 2 in an effort to upgrade our environment to 6.x+ from 5.1.0.  After the vCenter upgrade completed fairly smoothly, I noticed one of the 2 hosts we have in the cluster had an alert - "vSphere HA agent is unreachable".  There is only one VM currently running on this host and I tried to migrate it to the other host so I could reboot the ESXi host to see if it would fix the issue but got a "general system error" and it failed.  I also tried the "Reconfigure for HA" option when you right-click the host in the vSphere Client.  In trying to further troubleshoot (check logs, etc.), I turned on SSH and the ESXi Shell but I could not SSH to the host... and when I connect via iLO to view the console of the ESXi host, it does not show the normal Black/yellow VMware ESXI standby screen, only a black screen that has at the top of the screen 'ESXi 5.1.0' (in yellow text) and the VMware URL (in blue text) with the copyright info on the next line.  After a while and hitting keys to wake it, it prompted me to login, but I'm not sure what I'm logging into or how to proceed further, or if a restart is necessary (or whether or not it can be rebooted via the client).

How can I fix this so I can move forward with upgrading the hosts to match vCenter?  The other host seems to be normal and encountered no issues like this.

update manager how too

In version 6.5 update manager I do a scan of my esxi host servers for patches and this is all I see

In the old version 5.5 if you scanned it it would show if it were compliant or not and then the last time you scanned it . Is there more that you have to do to check for updates that i am missing?

Cannot start vmware-netcfg after upgrade to Workstation 15.0 on debian host

I was running the latest version of Workstation 14 and upgraded to 15. Before the update, both starting the Virtual Network Editor via GUI and running vmware-netcfg as root on the command line worked properly. Now nothing happens when starting via GUI, and this is printed on the command line:

root@pc-tb-debian ➜  ~  vmware-netcfg

terminate called after throwing an instance of 'boost::exception_detail::clone_impl<boost::exception_detail::error_info_injector<boost::property_tree::json_parser::json_parser_error> >'

  what():  <unspecified file>: ptree contains data that cannot be represented in JSON format

I have already removed /etc/vmware/networking and reinstalled VMware Workstation 15, so basically I am running the default network config.

Any Ideas?

Horizon View 7.5.1 - Persona Management - Freezing login

These are my versions:

  • Windows 7 SP 1 (32-bits)
  • Horizon View Agent 7.5.1
  • vSphere 6.5 U1

I am using persona management to redirect user profiles and it hangs at initiating and synchornize the profiles in like 30 minutes but when you are finally on the VM in hangs. I saw this on the VDI Event Viewer:

The persona management logs looks great i have no error there. This is a brand new installation i use the same Master VMs that i used on an old plataform with Horizon View 7.0.2 but of course reinstalled the View Agent with the correct version and updated the VMware Tools.

Also i verified the permissions of my persona management folder and they are configure like VMware Best Practices.

What could be the issue?

Thanks!

On attempting to start VMware I get the message "Could not open /dev/vmmon: No such file or directory." then followed with "Failed to initialize monitor device."

Looking at the Mac OS X System Prefs > Security & Privacy, I see: System software from developer "VMware, Inc." was blocked from loading. Allow button doesn't work. Tried reinstalling, but still no success. I also set it to "Allow apps downloaded from: Anywhere" Message and button will not go away, VMware will not load.

ESXi

Dear ladies and gentlemen,

in March 2017 we bought an ESXi Licence and thought we will have support with it. So we extented the "support" in 2018 for another 3 years. But as we know now, the "Subscription only" plan is only for updates, not for support. Damn ...

That's why I'm opening this thread. We are running 2 ESXi Hosts, both with Raid 5. I know, Raid 5 is not well known for it's speed, but yeah, read the next few lines.

We get a speed of about 20MB/s when copy files from one of our hosts or even at this host between datastores. Running on a ThinkSystem SR650. The ESXi is connected with fibre channel to one of our switches, no problem with other hosts. Like i said, even when I connect with SSH to the ESXi and try to duplicate an VMDK on file level, it's very slow. Can't measure the exact speed, but it's slow, trust me. The other host is faster, downloading a VMDK of it gives us a speed of about 100M/sec.

Is there any way to export something like a debug profile for you guys here on the forums? I think that would be helpful. We are running very critical tasks on this ESXi, so a reboot is not an option at the moment. We need to replicate our VMs to the 2nd Host before we can do this. But maybe there are some steps without reboot which we can try.

Thanks for any advice!
