Distributed Switch What-if Scenerio

I am going to be installing a vDS on our vSphere 5.0 U2 environment.  I understand if vCenter crashes the hosts/vm's will be able to still function on the network as the hosts have that vDS switch config locally, but...

1) What happens if vCenter crashes and I can't get it back? 

2) Do I have to rip the hosts/vm's off of the old vDS causing an outage in order to get them on the new vDS? 

3) Would that cause an outage?

4) Can the old vDS config get pulled into the new vCenter?

5) What happens if vCenter is good but our SQL server dies?  I suppose we just restore the backup from the night before?
