We are thinking about changing our VMWare network setup. and wanted to take the best aproach.
Right now they are sitting in 2 older Cisco 2960's that are not stacked but we are consedering getting a pair of 3750's and stacking them
Our current Configuration is as follows
vSwitch 0 has 2 Physical NICS carring our server VLAN + the VMWare Management network
vSwitch 1 has 2 Physical NICS carring vMotion
vSwitch 2 has 2 Physical NICS carring our SAN iSCSI VLAN
vSwitch 3 has 2 Physical NICS carring our Virtual Desktop Network VLAN
Now vSwitch 3 is setup on all 5 hosts but it is really only used by one server (XenDesktop Provising Server) however we seup that on all hosts incase that server ever jumps to another host. So alot of NICS are going to waist on other hosts when that specific server isnt using that VMHost
This was our thinking if we went to stacked switch:
Trunk into the new switch pair:
vSwich 0 has 4 Physical NICS Trunked carring Server VLAN and Virtual Desktop VLAN
vSwitch 1 has 2 Physical NICS Carring vMotion and Management Network (we would ahve to change the management IP)
vSwitch 2 has 2 Physical NICS Carring our SAN iSCSI VLAN
Do you think this is the correct course of action or should we look to netowrk differently?
Also is our current network setup correct based on that we dont have stacked switches in that rack?
